A Family Reunited: Judith's Story

Rebuilding a Family After Prison in Kenya

When Judith went to prison in Kenya, the consequences reached far beyond the prison walls. Her children, Brevian and Darwin, were left without the daily care and stability of their mother, and the family they had known was separated.

Building Families For Tomorrow came alongside Judith and her children with a goal that extended beyond helping one woman successfully return home after prison. The goal was to help the entire family rebuild.

Preparing for Life After Prison

After her release, Judith joined BFFT's family restoration program, where she received counseling, biblical discipleship, life-skills training, and vocational education.

Judith chose baking as her vocational trade, developing practical skills that could help her earn an income, support her children, and build an independent life after incarceration.

But economic independence was only part of the restoration process.

Reuniting and Restoring a Family

Judith was reunited with Brevian and Darwin, and together they began rebuilding their lives and relationships. In time, the children's father also returned to the family.

With vocational training and continued support from BFFT, Judith began using her baking skills to generate income and create greater stability for her children. Brevian and Darwin were also able to continue their education, creating opportunities for the next generation that once seemed uncertain.

And the impact of that restoration continues today.

Brevian is now in college studying social work so that she can help children.

Restoring the Whole Family

Judith's story is about much more than a woman successfully returning home after prison. It is the story of family reunification, economic independence, education, and generational change.

Her journey demonstrates what Building Families For Tomorrow means by restoring the whole family. When a mother leaving prison is equipped with the skills and support to rebuild her life—and her children are supported alongside her—the impact can reach far beyond one second chance.

It can change the future of an entire family and give the next generation the opportunity to create a different future of their own.
